Mounjaro

Key Benefits:Mounjaro is an antidepressant drug that can reduce the number of seizures in a patient who has a brain tumor. It is also used to prevent partial seizures in some epilepsy patients.

Health authorities have warned of a rise in heartburn as patients pay more for their medicine, potentially adding to the cost of health cuts.

A health care cost review of Nexium 24HR, used to treat ulcers, found a 10% rise in heartburn in people over the age of 40, compared with a four-day average cost of $15.66 for the same group of people.

The review, which was carried out by a panel of experts led by Pfizer’s global clinical research chief, concluded the drug has been linked to an increase in heartburn, the most common stomach acidity, as well as an increased risk of ulcers.

“Heartburn is a frequent symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),” the review found.

The review also noted there has been a rise in heartburn in patients taking Nexium, with the number of patients taking the drug increasing from just over 1,000 in 2016 to 2,500 in 2021.

“The increased risk of gastrointestinal side effects, including heartburn and symptoms of acid reflux, is well-documented in patients taking Nexium, and is likely to continue,” the review said.

It found the increased risk of ulcers is the result of patients taking Nexium for a shorter duration of treatment, and are now at higher risk of heartburn compared with those on placebo.

Pfizer’s Nexium 24HR was launched in the UK in July 2020 but had been plagued by price hikes since then.

The review found there had been an average cost increase of $15.66 for patients taking the drug compared with a cost increase of $10.33 for patients on a similar drug.

The review also found the cost of the drug increased by nearly 5% from 2019 to 2023, a 12% increase from 2019 to 2023.

“Despite the rise in heartburn in patients taking Nexium 24HR, there have been no price increases for the drug in the last 12 months,” the review said.

The review recommended further analysis of the drug, including whether the increase was related to patients taking Nexium 24HR, and whether the increase was due to Nexium 24HR use.

“While patients should be aware of the increased risk of gastrointestinal side effects with the use of Nexium 24HR, it is not recommended for patients taking this drug for a longer duration of treatment, or for those taking other stomach acid-modifying drugs,” the review said.

The review also recommended the use of patients taking omeprazole and esomeprazole to assess the drug’s safety and effectiveness. It also recommended the use of Prilosec and Raloxifene as alternatives to Nexium 24HR.

In its decision, the government said the increase in the risk of heartburn was “well under the radar” and that the review should be updated.

“This is a welcome development for patients and the NHS as it is a cost-effective and cost-effective alternative to Nexium 24HR,” the government said.

Nexium 24HR has been linked to an increased risk of ulcers in some people due to an increased proton level at the site of acid production.

The review found the increased risk of ulcers was the result of people taking Nexium for a shorter duration of treatment, and are now at higher risk of heartburn compared with those on a placebo.

Prilosec and Raloxifene also have been linked to an increased risk of stomach bleeding, and are both used to treat stomach ulcers.

The review recommended the use of patients taking Nexium for a shorter duration of treatment, and have also recommended Prilosec and Raloxifene as alternatives to Nexium 24HR.

The review also recommended the use of omeprazole and esomeprazole to assess the drug’s safety and effectiveness.

The review recommended further analysis of the drug, including whether the increase in the risk of gastrointestinal side effects was related to patients taking Nexium 24HR, and whether the increase was due to Nexium 24HR use.
